Brief information about Estonia
Estonia is a small Northern European country known for its rich history, technological innovation, and beautiful landscapes.
Geographically, Estonia is located on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea and the northern coast of the Gulf of Finland. It borders Latvia to the south and Russia to the east. Estonia also has numerous islands, the largest of which are Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Its capital and largest city is Tallinn, renowned for its preserved medieval architecture.
Estonia is one of three Baltic States (alongside Latvia and Lithuania), and it became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991. Historically, it was a battleground for Danish, Swedish, German, and Russian forces, all leaving their mark on the country's culture and architecture.
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Estonia has a population of approximately 1.3 million people. The official language is Estonian, a Finno-Ugric language closely related to Finnish and distantly to Hungarian.
Estonia is well-known for its digital society: it was the first country to offer e-Residency, enabling global citizens to start and manage businesses online. Estonia's technological orientation is also reflected in the country's education, with students learning to code from a young age.
The economy is diverse, with key sectors including information technology, telecommunications, logistics, and industrial manufacturing. The country is part of the European Union, NATO, and the eurozone, demonstrating its integration with Western institutions.
The country has a rich natural environment, with large forests, numerous lakes, and a significant network of rivers. It's also home to Soomaa and Lahemaa National Parks, known for their unique landscapes and diverse wildlife.
In cultural terms, Estonia has a vibrant arts scene with notable contributions to music, literature, and film. Its Song Festival, a
UNESCO-listed event, sees tens of thousands of singers gather from across the country.
This brief overview provides just a snapshot of Estonia; the country offers much more to explore and discover.

The country declared independence from Russia in 1918, was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940, and regained its independence in 1991. Since then, Estonia has aligned itself with the West, becoming a member of NATO in 2004 and the European Union the same year.
